SWA Group Review 1
Altered State of Legality: Spencer, Thai, Melissa
This group did their presentation on the topic of the legalization of marijuana. Their analysis was informative but it didn’t only focus on the information; it also persuaded the audience. They did a good job of not sticking strictly to the information on the slides, they also added in and “spoke” to the audience. The quotes from the interview had a lot of meaning and power towards their main point.

Fast Food in America: Matt, Jose, Brett
This group also did a great job of giving you the basic information and then persuading. I loved how they interacted with the audience with the caloric intake part of the presentation. They overall presentation was funny, enjoyable, and kept the audience entertained/tuned in. the only real weakness of it; is that it was very predictable. This is a topic that everyone knows about and everyone knows the result.

1. O'Brien MD, Mary, Thomas McCoy MS, Scott Rhodes PhD, Ashley Wagoner BS, and Mark Wolfson PhD. "Caffeinated Cocktails: Energy Drink Consumption, High-risk Drinking, and Alcohol-related Consequences among College Students." Academic Emergency Medicine. 15.5 (May 2008): 453-460. Web. 10 Apr. 2014.

2. This article is about the relationships between energy drink use, high-risk drinking behavior, and alcohol-related consequences 3. Researchers used data from surveys taken by students at 10 universities in North Carolina to try to identify how many students are mixing there alcoholic beverages with energy drinks. 4. Their research focuses on how much the students are drinking and whether or not they have been through any harmful experiences in a certain amount of days in the past. 5. The information provided is very useful to the topic of alcohol and energy drink consumption. They focus almost completely on the topic of mixing alcohol and energy drinks instead of just alcohol. 6. The study was limited to college students from a particular geographic area, and their ability to assess causal relationships. 7. Therefore the authors express that there must be further research attempted to gain more of an understanding of the topic. 8. This research is really effective because not a lot of college students know that mixing alcoholic beverages with energy drinks lessens subjective intoxication in those persons. Thus these students are doing this not knowing that they are physically hurting themselves more.

Response Paper 2

I couldn’t really think of a significant new place that I had visited within the past year that would be worth writing about, however I did travel across the country to Virginia about a year and a half ago. I understand that this is outside the timeframe, but this trip was so memorable that it feels like I was there yesterday. The reason for my visit to Virginia was due to a football camp. This camp was called Football University Top Gun, and it held some of the most elite athletes throughout the country. Now I know that I am not necessarily one of the most elite, but I was blessed enough to get the invite to go to the camp. During my time in Virginia, I was outside for the most part doing physical activity. The climate there was not my cup of tea to say the least. It was like you were running around in a steam room the whole time. The temperature was upwards of 90 degrees and it was extremely humid; so once you start to sweat, you wont dry off for just about the whole day. I wasn’t able to experience much of the landmarks or historical attractions due to the fact that I was at the camp the whole time. I would most definitely like to go back to Virginia so I can get a sense of what the state is really like instead of just going for a football camp. Don’t get me wrong, I had a great time and I will never forget this trip, but I would’ve liked to experience more of the state of Virginia. If I could travel to one place anywhere in the world, it would most likely be somewhere like the Bahamas or the Caribbean islands. These places just look so beautiful and it seems impossible to not have a good time when you’re on those white-sand beaches looking out at the crystal clear ocean. I would take my entire extended family along with me if I could and we would stay there until we didn’t want to be there anymore.
